I'm Curious

I'm curious about the readers of this blog. Since I blog on this site so sporadically, I don't ever get much in the comments department. Which, is fair enough, I suppose. I don't often blog because I save a lot of my blog ideas for the Magic and Mayhem blog. Another reason is, that between Twitter, my author page on Facebook, reading and commenting on certain blogs (including the many book review sites I follow), and the group blog, I spend approximately 2 hours a day on social networking alone. And now that I'm under deadlines and accountable for my writing, I feel like every word blogged is a word NOT in the MSs due to my editor.

But I digress. This is about YOU after all. And I'm honestly curious about you. So let me ask you this, blog followers: What genre do you read? Are you a writer as well? And do you enjoy reading blogs about writing and industry relevant topics? I'd really like to know. :)

I'm a reader. I'm a writer. I'm a curious soul dipping into life and words.

I tend to read a lot of horror, thrillers, and paranormal. However, I'm not beyond dipping my toes in other genre's out of curiousity.

As for blogging. I'm surprised as all get out I have the followers I do. I'm lucky if I manage a post once or twice a month. I don't necessarily like to waste words to satisfy a timeline or schedule. When I do write I want to leave something that sinks deep beneath the skin and stays for awhile.

Reading other writers/authors is a favorite past-time. Why? I've never come across a writer who hasn't placed parts of themselves between the lines of whatever they write. Curiousity is a strange compulsion. (Hugs)Indigo

Hi Amanda: I follow your blogs through Google reader, so I'm a miserable commenter. Sorry about that. I follow some uncountable number of blogs and about 95% are from writers, publishers, reviewers...in other words, the industry.

Anyway, my reading tastes are SF and fantasy primarily, but enjoy a mystery or two along the way. I don't seek out romance, but don't kick a book to the curb if it has a bit.

I write (TA DA!) SF, fantasy, and mystery. What a surprise. I have a new release of a mystery from MuseItUp tomorrow. The ebook appears to already be available thru Amazon.

I read primarily women's fiction, paranormal romance, and urban fantasy. I'll read out of my comfort zone though if a story sounds interesting.

I'm also a writer, and I'll be self-publishing my debut novel at the end of next month (women's fiction with a healthy dose of forbidden romance).

My blog is often the last thing I have time for these days and it doesn't matter how much I want to post, sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day. Plus my blog posts tend to be rather long sometimes so it's not like I can get in and get out quickly.

I like to read blogs about writing, but sometimes I think I'd be better off, you know, writing versus reading about how someone else goes about it. I also enjoy reading about the author on a personal level and knowing when they're getting ready to release a book.

All social media can be such a time suck, and there are times I want to stick my head under a rock and not engage anyone on Twitter, or leave blog comments, or deal with FB. But I know it's important and all I can do is try my best to fit it all in.

I read a lot of thrillers (surprise, surprise), but I also love horror, romance, and mainstream/literary.

Like you, I spend a lot of time social networking. Would love to trim it down, but with my debut novel having just been released, this is probably not the time to slow down. :) But I do genuinely enjoy reading blogs and finding out what folks are up to, and I like Facebook and Twitter, so that helps. It would probably feel like a chore if I didn't enjoy it!

I read widely across genres, but my main interest is in literary fiction. I am a writer, and I can't imagine spending that much time in social networking. The writing comes first. I, too, blog infrequently due to time constraints, but I love the give and take of blogging, and I find information about the industry invaluable.

Well, as your crit partner, YOU know that I'm a reader and writer and an enjoyer of all things dark and creepy. I have also been decidedly lax about blogging on my own site. Like you, I feel like it's time NOT spent on my MS, time not getting this new partial ready for my agent, etc. But I do enjoy the thoughts of other writers and the thoughts of book reviewers.
